PUPILS at a Lower Darwen school have held an event to thank Blackburn Rovers after the club came to its aid when it was damaged in a fire.
Rovers striker Jason Roberts attended St James’ C of E Primary School to meet youngsters and accept their thanks on behalf of the club.
The club stepped in to help the school by allowing it to use their facilities after vandals set fire to lead from its roof causing the sprink-ler system to activate, which damaged it sports hall floor.
Yesterday excited pupils from St James’ C of E Primary School presented Jason with thank you cards and a choreographed dance.
Headteacher Susan Cliffe said: “The hall is all sorted now and it looks great, we have a lovely new floor. I don’t know what we would have done without the help of Blackburn Rovers.
“They have been absolutely fantastic and the pupils and staff are genuinely grateful.
“The children really loved being involved with the football club. I just want to thank everyone who was involved at Rovers for coming to our rescue.” Jason, who has his own charity the ‘Jason Roberts Foundation’ which aims to provide a range of sporting opportunities for children and young people in the UK and Grenada, said he was happy to be at the school.
He said: “It’s great that Blackburn Rovers get inv-olved with the community and St James’ reminds me of my old primary school and I’m excited to be here.”
Year six pupil Khia Hosker said: “I am so happy to see Jason in our school and the hall looks alot better.
“It was great to be able to go down to Blackburn Rovers, we learnt lots of new skills and it has all been very exciting.”
Joanne Cleasby, the programme tutor for Rovers Community Trust, helped organise a five-a-side football match and choreographed the dance with year six pupils.
