A CHARITY received a £4,000 cash boost with a little help from Blackburn Rovers.

Blackburn with Darwen Churches Action has been handed the cash as part of the Premier League Creating Chances.

As part of its win the charity, which provides furniture to needy families, will now be visited by a player in a bid to boost the profile of the work that they do.

Fred Milligan, general manager at the charity, said the money woud go to admin costs for running the enterprise.

He said: “At the charity we divert items which would otherwise be sent to landfill for recycling and re-use. Although we receive a steady supply of furniture each week due to the generosity of the general public we are always in need of additional cookers, washers and beds, as well as other smaller household goods.

“The grant will be used to partially fund the salary of an employee based at Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Rom-an Road site to oversee all items brought in and decide which would be suitable for use by our charity.”

The charity has won the cash under the “Places for Players” scheme where every Premier League club will turn the spotlight on a local good cause.

More details about which player will visit the charity and when the visit will take place will be announced in the coming weeks, although it is expected to take place next month.
