John Terry will miss England’s World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan on Saturday – possibly paving the way for a place in the starting line-up for Joleon Lescott.
Fabio Capello has confirmed the Chelsea defender will be unavailable for the clash after failing to recover from a back injury.
And now the England boss has a choice of bringing in one of either Matthew Upson or the Toffees defender to play alongside Rio Ferdinand.
Capello was given a similar predicament last month when England faced Andorra – opting to start Lescott alongside Ferdinand in defence.
The qualifier with Kazakhstan is taking place at Wembley, as the Lions look to cement their place at the top of their qualifying group.
It's thought that Terry will be fit for Wednesday's trip to Belarus.
